Building Information Modelling (BIM) Training Course

Construction projects worldwide lose an estimated 30% of their value through inefficiencies, rework, and coordination failures between design, construction, and operations teams. Building Information Modelling (BIM) directly addresses these losses by creating a shared digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. Yet many professionals still work from fragmented 2D workflows, disconnected spreadsheets, and siloed communication channels. Can you confidently say your project team works from a single source of truth when resolving spatial clashes between structural and MEP systems? BIM is the methodology and technology framework that enables project teams to collaboratively plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure using intelligent 3D models enriched with data. It enables professionals to reduce coordination errors by up to 40%, compress project timelines, and deliver facilities with complete digital handover packages. Standards like ISO 19650 and classification systems such as Uniclass 2015 now set the global benchmark for information management, and organizations that lag behind face growing exclusion from public and private sector mandates.

This 10-day course bridges the gap between basic CAD proficiency and confident BIM implementation across the project lifecycle. Whether you are a design coordinator struggling with clash detection workflows, a project manager trying to enforce BIM Execution Plans, or a facility manager inheriting asset data you cannot trust, this training gives you the structured knowledge and hands-on practice to operate effectively within a BIM-enabled environment. Can you map out the information requirements for each project stage from concept through to operations and maintenance? You will leave with a personal BIM implementation roadmap, a working federated model, a completed clash detection report, and a COBie-compliant asset data export ready for facility management handover. This course positions you to lead collaborative digital delivery rather than react to it.

About the Course

Organizations across architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) need professionals who can do more than navigate a 3D model. They need team members who can define information requirements using ISO 19650 protocols, author and coordinate models in Autodesk Revit, run interference checks in Navisworks, manage Common Data Environments (CDEs), validate data against Employer Information Requirements (EIR), and produce compliant asset deliverables. This course develops exactly those capabilities across a structured 10-day learning arc that moves from foundational BIM concepts through to intermediate-level federated model coordination and digital handover.

What you will learn: this course teaches you how to set up and manage BIM projects using ISO 19650 information management standards, author discipline-specific Revit models with correct Level of Information Need (LOIN), coordinate multi-discipline federated models, execute automated clash detection, and produce COBie data drops for asset management. You will practice hands-on in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks Manage, and BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), building working models and resolving real coordination issues. You will be introduced to 4D scheduling concepts using Navisworks Timeliner and 5D cost estimation linkages at overview level. By the final day, you will have produced a multi-discipline federated model, a clash detection resolution log, a BIM Execution Plan (BEP), and a digital handover package.

This training is designed for professionals who work under real project pressure: tight deadlines, changing client briefs, inconsistent model quality from subconsultants, and CDE platforms that teams barely use. If your organization mandates BIM but your team still passes around uncoordinated Revit files on email, or if your clash detection meetings produce 10,000 unfiltered results that nobody acts on, this course gives you the practical workflows to turn mandate into method.

A working knowledge of construction terminology, building systems (structural, architectural, MEP), and project delivery stages is assumed.

Local Application and Business Return

How participants can apply the training in local operating conditions, and the return their organisation can plan for.

How participants apply this

Participants in Uganda typically use BIM to coordinate architectural, structural, and MEP designs before work reaches site, reducing avoidable clashes and rework. They can prepare federated models for design reviews, use clash detection to resolve interface issues early, and document decisions in a way that supports contract administration. On live projects, they may also help contractors align shop drawings, sequencing, and quantity information with the agreed model. For handover, they can assemble asset data that facility teams can actually use for maintenance and operations.

Expected ROI

Within 6–12 months, organisations usually see fewer coordination errors, faster design approvals, and less time spent reconciling conflicting drawings and spreadsheets. The biggest gains often come from reduced rework, clearer accountability during design reviews, and better control over information at handover. For contractors, the practical benefit is fewer site disruptions caused by late clash discovery. For owners, the payoff is cleaner asset data and lower friction in operations and maintenance.

Training Methodology

This is a practical, outcome-driven course designed to turn BIM adoption from mandate into measurable project capability and credible digital delivery.

Methodology includes:

  • Hands-on Revit modelling exercises building architectural, structural, and MEP components
  • Clash detection simulations in Navisworks Manage resolving real multi-discipline conflicts
  • CDE workflow setup and document management exercise using Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • BIM Execution Plan drafting workshop mapping roles and information delivery milestones
  • Case study analysis from healthcare, commercial, and infrastructure sectors
  • Group federated model coordination exercise under realistic timeline and budget constraints
  • ISO 19650 compliance audit exercise evaluating a project against EIR requirements

Why this course matters in Uganda

A market-specific advisory on the operating pressures this course helps teams address.

BIM matters in Uganda because construction, infrastructure, and facilities teams need tighter coordination as projects become more complex and owners expect cleaner handover information. It is especially relevant for architects, civil and structural engineers, MEP teams, contractors, quantity surveyors, and facility managers who must work from the same project data instead of separate drawings and spreadsheets. For leaders, this course supports a practical decision: whether the organisation is ready to standardise digital delivery, reduce coordination risk, and improve asset information for operations.
Coordination risk is a direct cost issue

In BIM-enabled delivery, teams can detect clashes between structural and MEP systems earlier, which is valuable in Uganda where fragmented coordination can otherwise lead to rework, delays, and change orders.

Handback quality affects operations

Public and private owners increasingly need structured asset information for maintenance, so BIM skills help project teams deliver usable digital handover data instead of incomplete close-out files.

Digital delivery capability is becoming a competitiveness factor

Firms that can produce federated models, clash reports, and information management plans are better positioned to compete on larger, more complex projects that demand disciplined information control.

This training is timely because BIM is moving from a specialist capability to a practical requirement on more coordinated projects, especially where owners want better cost control, fewer site clashes, and cleaner handover data. In Uganda, the pressure is strongest in infrastructure, commercial construction, and facilities management, where delayed decisions and poor information flow can quickly increase project risk.

No. Teams can begin with BIM principles, information standards, and coordination processes before scaling into software tools. The key is agreeing on model responsibilities, information exchange rules, and review workflows.

No. BIM is useful wherever multiple disciplines must coordinate design, quantities, sequencing, or asset handover. Larger projects often show the biggest financial benefit, but smaller teams also gain from fewer errors and clearer communication.

Delegates should be able to support a BIM execution workflow, review and federate models, identify clashes, and prepare structured handover information. They should also understand how BIM fits across the project lifecycle from concept to operations.

No. BIM supports project management by improving the quality and flow of information. Managers still need scope control, coordination, procurement oversight, and stakeholder management, but they can make decisions from a more reliable data environment.
